Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Minimize

Volunteers can be an important part of any organization and are proven to be a valuable asset to Law Enforcement agencies by increasing police responsiveness, service delivery and information input. Our volunteer program pre-dates the police department itself and has been known through the years by other names, such as the Cedar Lake Civil Defense, the Cedar Lake Emergency Management Agency and now Cedar Lake Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS).

The VIPS Unit’s responsibilities include: Traffic Control at Special Events and Traffic Accidents, Security at Special Events, and Neighborhood and Business Patrols. VIPS members receive a mandatory 25 hours of basic training in: Police Radio Operations, CPR, RES-Q Disc Operations, NIMS(National Incident Management System),Traffic Control Procedures, and Field Training. VIPS members are required to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours of service per month. If you are interested in joining our unit you can pick up an application at the Cedar Lake Police Department.
